Greece’s Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis visits Sunlight Group facilities in Xanthi
The visit focused on Sunlight’s production and technological base, its investments in innovation, and its strong export orientation.
Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, visited the facilities of Sunlight Group—a member of the Olympia Group—in Xanthi today, where he had the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into Sunlight’s production and technological activities.
The visit focused on the Group’s production and technological capabilities, its investments in Research & Development, and its international footprint—with 99% of its output exported to more than 115 countries. The industrial complex in Xanthi, which spans a total area of 90,000 sq.m., features 8 automated production lines and an annual production capacity of 9 GWh, while supporting 1,200 jobs in the region.
The Minister of National Economy and Finance was welcomed at the industrial complex in Xanthi by members of the Sunlight Group’s management team—specifically, Mr. Spyros Gorgogiannis, R&D Director; Mr. Konstantinos Paspalas, General Manager of the Xanthi Plant; and Ms. Angeliki Eleftheriou, Corporate Affairs Director. Mr. Ioannis Karagiannis, Chairman of the Board of the Olympia Group, was also present, highlighting the Group’s strategic commitment to the continuous strengthening of production and technological investments in the Greek regions.
During the tour, the Minister had the opportunity to learn about key areas of production, research, and technological development at Sunlight—specifically regarding:
Lithium-Ion Innovation & R&D: During the visit, lithium battery assembly lines and accredited laboratories were showcased, where more than 200 specialized scientists work—thereby fostering the attraction and utilization of scientific talent in Greece. C&I (Commercial & Industrial) Systems: The PowerESS HV series of industrial and commercial energy storage solutions was introduced. These batteries enable businesses to reduce their energy costs by storing electricity when it is inexpensive (energy arbitrage) and by smoothing out sharp consumption peaks (load leveling). At the same time, they maximize the use of energy from renewable sources and support the stability of the national grid through the automated management of consumption at the premises (behind-the-meter demand response). Through these technologies, industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as residential consumers, are shielded against price fluctuations, ensuring lower costs and energy autonomy.
During the visit, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance, stated: "Sunlight is a Greek success story with an international footprint—a company that began in Xanthi and has managed to become a leading player in one of the world’s most competitive markets by investing in innovation, technology, and an outward-looking approach.
This is the Greece we want to build. A Greece that creates high-value jobs, generates know-how, and proves that the Greek regions can be at the forefront of the global economy.”
Ioannis Karagiannis, Chairman of the Board of the Olympia Group, noted: "It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mr. Pierrakakis to the Sunlight factory in Xanthi—a place where Greek production meets the global market. Through consistent investment in Greece, technical expertise, and confidence in our people, Sunlight has evolved into an international industrial powerhouse in the field of energy storage. With exports accounting for 99% of its production in Greece, a presence in 115 countries, and ten manufacturing plants across Europe and the Americas, Sunlight demonstrates that our country can serve as a hub for production and innovation with a global reach. For us at the Olympia Group, this is the very essence of investment: to build strong enterprises that generate value for our country, compete on the international stage, and bolster the role of both Greece and Europe in strategic sectors of the economy.”
The visit concluded with a discussion on the prospects for energy storage and the role of technology and innovation in the development of Greek industry.
